ESPFlow tracker - Downhole flow rate measurement of wells operating in a periodic mode

Task:

Ensuring correct measurement of wells operating in periodic mode. Problems:

  • With the standard approach, using measurements through the metering station, wells are measured in a sequential mode
  • It is a challenge to align a well in a periodic production with a metering schedule, therefore daily rates and production allocations are not correct.
  • Flow regime influence - it is challenging for separators at metering station to measure slugs, which are inherently part of periodic production wells.

Solution:

ESPFlow tracker is a reliable and affordable solution - a downhole flow meter, which is installed at the pump discharge. It measures flowrate and watercut continuously and sends data to surface in real time, using ESP power cable.

Result:

ESPFlow tracker provided client reliable flow measurement in the wells with periodic production mode. This allowed to improve flowrate measurement and production allocation in the field.

Advantages of measuring flow rate at the bottom of the well

  • The influence of the wellbore, surface pipes and flow conditions is minimal (which affects separator measurements at the surface)
  • It measures flow continuously - unlike test separators, which measure flow periodically.
  • The amount of free gas is limited, which makes the measurement of liquid flow rate and water cut more reliable.
